2023-24 - The Problem Solvers

Our 2023-24 ASSET Alumni group have been thinking about what they want to create as their social action challenge this year, to improve their community.

They have identified that young people between 10 and 13 can find it challenging to find safe places to just hang out. So they have come up with the concept of "The People Park" - somewhere for young people to go with a discreet adult presence that isn't a structured activity. 

In February the group pitched the idea to lots of local people working in a range of different jobs, who helped us develop our park idea. Sue Mahoney from Vertas invited us to the the Vertas head office in March, and their marketing, catering, environmental teams gave us presentations that would help us think about how we would run the park. They also gave us a workshop by their architect, helping us understand how to design the park. In the Summer half term we visited some different ASSET schools to choose a site for a "pop-up park" in Autumn, where we can trial our idea.
