Community Advocates
We know that families value and respond to relationships when it comes to discussing their needs. While surveys are helpful, these are not always useful ways to reach families that find it hardest to talk to us, and don’t always ask “what do you want?”.
Over the Summer term 2023, we carried out a consultative exercise working in partnership with community advocates within our localities, asking them to consult their peers on how we can support our children and their parents and carers best.
Could you be a community advocate?
We’re looking for trusted adults in the community who have a good network that brings them into contact with lots of families, and whose position means that parents will talk to them about what they would like to see in ASSET schools. You may be a grandparent, retired, or working in a paid or voluntary capacity that gives you a perspective and understanding of your local community’s needs.
Community advocates meet occasionally with Family Liaison Officers to share the views of families in their community, and to take back key questions about the services offered that schools would like feedback on.
If you would like to be a community advocate, please get in touch with your schools’ FLO.
