Youth Social Action
When we talk about “nurturing humanity” we recognise our role in developing young people’s agency so that they can become the citizens, innovators and leaders of the future.
For this reason all ASSET schools run a range of programmes for children to understand their place in the world, and feel that their action counts however small.
Youth Social Action refers to those acts of community that our children take part in - volunteering, fundraising and activism.
All schools have access to “Votes for Schools” enabling children to discuss current issues with confidence and cast their votes weekly on the things that matter to them. This is a powerful tool in building oracy, confidence and critical thinking.
ASSET schools also run pupils forums, councils and ambassador programmes, giving children a taste of social action and empowering their voices.
Our ASSET board of trustees, and local governing bodies will work with pupil leadership groups so that their voices can inform strategic decision making, and young people have the opportunity to be part of the change that they want to see.
Children from across our schools’ pupil leadership groups come together to form the ASSET Pupil Parliament, empowered to inform key decisions such as curriculum, our ASSET services, how we support our communities and how we can involve them in governance.
When children leave ASSET schools at the end of year 6 they can join our ASSET Alumni programme, helping us to understand how we can best prepare young people for the transition to high school, and supporting them with social impact projects in their local communities. Young people leaving an ASSET school from Year 6 in Summer 2024 can join our Alumni programme - details and the registration form can be found here.
We want to ensure we nurture our children's leadership. This is their take on leadership:
