The Ipswich Hack - May 2025
The Ipswich Hack - May 2025
ASSET Schools were invited to take part in one of 6 Hacks around the country as part of the Government's National Youth Strategy Consultation.
The Department of Media, Culture and Sport had completed the "Deliver You" survey - asking young people what they felt the needed to thrive, and the 6 hacks were youth voice events that delved deep into 4 of the big issues that came through the survey:
Day to Day Wellbeing
Positive and Fun Local Activities and Facilities
Having a Voice
Feeling Connected
The Hack was facilitated by brilliant #iwill ambassadors Gajaan and Tommy, with "older" young people facilitating from our ASSET Alumni, Northgate High School and Volunteering Matters. There were also important ears listening - representatives from SCMS, Suffolk and Ipswich councils, the Police Comissioner, NHS and MP Jack Abbott. The venue was the wonderful DanceEast on Ipswich's waterfront, with lots of other local organisations joining to hear what the children had to say.
Children from Ringshall, Stutton, Shotley, St Helens, Cliff Land, Holton, Bungay and Ilketshall shared their views and presented back some powerful messages through presentations, poetry and drama.
Some important themes from our children were "small people can do big things", and the importance of having spaces and opportunities to offer their opinions and to be heard. We heard that children love their places, but they really want to have more of the safe and enriching activities that enable them to connect.
