Race Across Suffolk

A race across our county to raise money for The Blossom Charity

Three teams of staff from Edgar Sewter Primary in Halesworth, Bungay Primary and The Beeches Primary in Ipswich too part in the Race Across Suffolk last week to raise money for The Blossom Charity, who support people who have been through challenging life circumstances.

Setting off early on Wednesday morning our three teams, along with others from businesses and charity across the county. had their phones and cards taken away, and armed with only a basic call only phone and a small amount of cash, were challenged to make their way to key towns across Suffolk.

Our teams had to solve clues to work out where they need to get to,  walk, cycle, bus, train, taxi or get lifts to their next checkpoint. Points were awarded for spending the least money, completing tasks in each town and of course, getting to the Finish Line of Thursday evening first!

The challenge particularly highlighted the challenges of transport, rurality and isolation in our beautiful county, especially for those with less mobility and on low incomes.

And the winners...?

Team Bungay won the day! Congratulations to Mrs Flatt and Mrs McGrotty who made their way to the final checkpoint with the most points.

This wonderful challenge has been so important to us as a trust - we strongly believe in #empowerment and so  we were keen to support the work that The Blossom Charity do for people in our communities. We know that rural isolation is a challenge for many of the smaller villages and towns that our rural schools serve.

The challenge also reminded us of our community values and our humanity.  Holly Bedford of The Beeches summarised the team's experience:

"It was a strange, humbling but exhilarating experience being at the mercy, at times, of the kindness of complete strangers.  I learnt a lot about myself and Suffolk and would definitely recommend the experience.  I thought the publicity that Blossom's managed to garner for the event was massive and was due to the passion and determination of their team. I hope they go on to help many more people for the foreseeable future."
